Smoke Test in Progress
12 months ago – Tue, Mar 04, 2025 at 12:01:15 PM

The staff at BackerKit reviewed my survey and had me make some tweaks. I had to make sure that returning supporters automatically got assigned their surprise stickers and that collaboration partners also got assigned their sticker packs. But because human error is always a constant, I'm conducting a smoke test. This is where the survey is sent out to ten percent of the backers.

The survey has you selecting your pin designs. There are five designs available. So, if you choose a tier with three pins, you can select which designs from the collection you want.

There is also an add-on section to the survey. With any luck, it should be operating normally, allowing you to add stuff like a pin from another collection.

If you get the survey and weird stuff happens, let me know! That way, I can fix the error before the survey goes out to everyone.

Many thanks,
Mark

Stickers and Pins Ordered
about 1 year ago – Tue, Feb 25, 2025 at 02:41:25 PM

It's time for an update. I attended a BackerKit Zoom for a refresher on putting together the survey. It requires creating files for all the items so that they have SKU# and images. Please, I have to determine the weight of things and attach them to the SKU# so that when the weighted total is added up, it can process correctly. It takes time to fill in all the correct boxes and learn the trick of having the right things appear on the right survey. For example, a lot of you are returning supporters and, as such, will be getting a surprise sticker. That needs an SKU# and all the data for it added in so that it can be marked onto the invoice sheet, but it doesn't need to go onto the survey because it's a freebie for those supporters. It just takes time to plug all of that together. Then I send a request to BackerKit's staff to review it for errors. Once that is done I will be able to get the applications going.

I'm not waiting for a tally to come in from the survey before I order pins and stickers. Because I do 6-9 conventions a year (sometimes more) I know I will need extra inventory. So I've submitted my order for two of the pins. The first three pin designs are done. I also submitted my order for stickers. Some are designs that inspired the pin designs, others are brand new designs taken from the pin designs.

The pins will take approx 18 days to produce. The stickers will probably take less time.
I'm thinking about including the sticker pack as an add-on for the survey. Right now the sticker pack is for those who supported both me and my pin partner.

That's the update! I'm plugging away on prepping the survey. I hope to have that done before the end of the week.

Thank you for your support!

Classic '80s Horror is in it's last 24 hours!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Feb 12, 2025 at 08:48:09 PM

Wow. This is a crazy ride. We are only a couple of hours away. A couple of things in this before-it-end update.

1. Yes, Definitely doing the The Thing pin.

2. If the campaign reaches its stretch goal $2k there will be an Aliens pin.

3. I'm sending both The Thing and Re-Animator final artwork out for manufacturer by the end of the week. It will take about 3-4 weeks for then to arrive. Factors that have caused delays in past: overnight change in government policy, world-wide pandemics, strikes, and human error.

4. This is a big one. I'm 28 days from launching another campaign. This is for Anime Bingo Cards. Here's the link.

5. Yes, there will be more updates.

Again, thank you all for your support.

Last Days!
about 1 year ago – Tue, Feb 11, 2025 at 11:32:44 AM

These last couple of days are going to be very exciting. I had some cancelations that have the totals down below 1,500, but I want to reassure everyone that I'm still going forward with The Thing enamel pin. I'm confident that those numbers will pop back up.

I also wanted to let you know the results of the poll. Our stretch goal of $2000 will result in an Aliens-themed pin. It will definitely feature a xenomorph.

I think I made two mistakes with this campaign. I didn't have all of my designs completed before I started. I think folks like to see what they're shooting for. This is the first campaign where I didn't have all the designs completed ahead of time. I also timed my ad campaign too late. I should have started it a week earlier. My last campaign was the first to use advertising, and it really helped. I advise everyone doing this: don't advertise at the last minute.

Today's project is getting all the pins entered at items in the system so that you can make your pin selections when the campaign ends. I also need to prep the Reanimator and The Thing pins for production. This means putting together an instruction sheet for the manufacturing house for the specific colors, pin stud placement, vector or for casting form, etc.

The next few days will be very exciting!

Thank you all for your support!

Vector Art Ready for The Thing!
about 1 year ago – Fri, Feb 07, 2025 at 11:03:34 PM

I finished the vector art for The Thing's Spider Head pin. I'm very confident that the stretch goal of $1,500 for it will be met. The next stretch goal is $2,000. Help me determine which movie will inspire the next pin design. If you haven't already, take part in the poll before it ends.
